Issues and Priorities
Housing and Affordability
Housing and affordability are major issues in the Bay Area, including Sunnyvale and District 6. Everyone should be able to live and age in their community without being priced out.
- Support More Housing: Advocate for increased housing development, including permitting ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) to help families care for aging parents or accommodate young adult children.
- Address Homelessness: Explore safe parking solutions for residents living in cars or RVs, inspired by successful models in neighboring Mountain View.
- Prevent Food Deserts: Ensure that new housing developments in the Moffett Park area include new retail and grocery options, while prioritizing the protection of existing small businesses.;
Public Safety
Promoting Community Safety and Addressing Hate
Eileen is dedicated to enhancing community safety and addressing hate incidents in Sunnyvale. Her recent efforts include:
- Hate Crime Reporting: Support the creation of a system for reporting and tracking both hate crimes and hate incidents that do not meet criminal thresholds.
- Safe Routes to School: Advocate for the swift completion of the Tasman bike/pedestrian path to ensure safer travel for students between Tasman Crossing, Lakewood, Fairwood, and Columbia, while addressing accessibility challenges with the existing path along the John W. Christian Greenbelt.
Sustainability
- Green Spaces: Protecting and maintaining parks and green spaces amid urban development, and expand ecologically-friendly open space.
- Climate Action: Implementing policies and programs to address climate change and promote sustainability, including expanding North Sunnyvale’s access to public transportation.
- Sustainable Parks: Investing in sustainable surfaces for soccer fields, cricket pitches, and inclusive children’s playgrounds, and promoting walkable, bikeable neighborhoods.
